Les Hautes Mers stands on the rocky coast of the Île d'Yeu above Ker Chalon beach, a few minutes' walk from the Port Joinville jetty and half an hour by boat from Fromentine. Whitewashed walls, stone and an ocean-front pool set the tone of an island holiday house.
The 25 rooms and suites nearly all open onto the water with large private terraces. Inside are handmade ceramics, driftwood, wicker and Pierre Frey fabrics, alongside photographs by Charles Fréger and works by Laurent Millet and Marie Bathellier from the founders' own collection.
Lou Marquis cooks Vendée seafood at Vent Debout, and a long communal table takes guests who want company. The spa runs to three hundred square metres with heated indoor and outdoor pools.
